A Da Nang honeymoon that does not feel like a tour

Two bases, one mountain, one long evening. The plan is built so that the strongest hours of the day are not spent in a car.

Short answer

Five days works well: three nights on the beach at My Khe or An Thuong, two nights in Hoi An. Put Ba Na on a clear morning (1,000,000₫ per adult) and keep one day completely unplanned. Book the two rooms, not the tours.

Why two bases

Most honeymoon itineraries in central Vietnam commute. They stay in Da Nang and drive to Hoi An for the evening, which means the two strongest hours of the day — the ones after the buses leave — are spent in a car going the wrong way. Two bases fixes that with one hotel change.

Three nights on the beach at My Khe or An Thuong, then two nights in Hoi An. The drive between them is 32.2 km, about 30 minutes with clear roads, so the transfer costs you a morning at most — and you get Hoi An at 07:00 and at 20:00, which is when it is worth having.

Notice what the table does not contain: no My Son, no Marble Mountains, no museum. Two of those are good; all three turn a honeymoon into a schedule. Pick one if you must, and put it on day 3 where the table currently says nothing.

The mountain, and the weather bet

Ba Na Hills is the one fixed point worth keeping, because the Golden Bridge is the photograph you will actually print. The ticket is 1,000,000₫ per adult from outside Da Nang, the park opens at 08:00, and the base station is 31.8 km from the city — about 29 minutes — so a 07:00 departure puts you in the first cable cars.

The bet is the weather. At 1,500 m the summit runs 17–20°C in summer and cloud builds through the afternoon; in October, when the city averages 658 mm of rain, the odds are not in your favour. If the forecast is poor on day 2, move it to day 3 and swap.

The evening that matters

Hoi An after 18:00 is the reason to move hotels. The old town runs until 21:30 in summer and 21:00 in winter, the lanterns come on around dusk, and the day coaches are gone. Walk the lanes, eat at 19:00, and take the riverside route back.

The entry ticket — 80,000₫ or 120,000₫ — is bought at the gate and covers a set number of old houses and assembly halls. Buy it if you want to go inside; skip it if the evening is for walking and dinner.

If you want one deliberate luxury on the trip, spend it here rather than on a tour: a table on the river side, booked a week ahead, at 19:00. It costs less than the mountain and it is the evening you will describe to people afterwards.

Questions people ask

How many days do you need for a Da Nang honeymoon?

Five days with two bases is the sweet spot: three nights on the beach and two in Hoi An. Four is possible but you will commute; six starts to feel long without a second region.

Is Da Nang good for a honeymoon in October?

It is the wettest month — 658 mm over 21 rain days — so plan indoor afternoons and treat the beach as a bonus. March to July is the safer window.

Should we stay in Hoi An or Da Nang?

Both, in that order: beach first, Hoi An last. Hoi An as a day trip wastes the two strongest hours of the old town.

What should we book in advance?

The two rooms and one dinner. Not the tours — the weather decides those, and a fixed tour date is the worst thing to hold in the rainy season.
